ACC History

The Wichita Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society was formed in 1939, about a year after the founding of the Society. We are reportedly one of the first half-dozen or so chapters chartered.  Members of the performing unit, The Air Capital Chorus, have varying degrees of musical academic training, but all come together to provide an extraordinary vocal blend. Our Chorus has won many Division Championships and is currently the top-ranked Chorus in Kansas and the 2nd Place Small Chorus within our 5-state district. Quartets will often develop from the Chorus. The Wichita Chapter currently has a number of performing quartets and has produced several Division Championship quartets as well.   With more than 30,000 members in 800 chapters in the U.S. and Canada, the Barbershop Harmony Society is the world's largest all-male singing organization. Through education services, music publishing, public performance and competition, the Society preserves a rich heritage of unique American music for future generations.
